According to the Korean Diabetes Association, the number of diabetes patients in South Korea has already exceeded 6 million, with approximately 15 million people in the prediabetes stage at high risk of developing diabetes. The number of young patients in their 20s and 30s has also noticeably increased, making diabetes a condition that now requires proactive prevention and management.

In response, various low-sugar foods that reduce the risk of blood sugar spikes and health-functional foods for blood sugar improvement that can be easily consumed daily have recently been released. However, liver and sleep health must not be overlooked to improve blood sugar levels.

According to the globally recognized physiology textbook (Guyton and Hall, Textbook of Medical Physiology), the liver acts as a critical blood sugar buffer, storing sugar obtained from food and breaking down glycogen to raise blood sugar levels during fasting. Therefore, a healthy liver is essential for smooth blood sugar regulation.

Sleep health is no exception. Lack of sleep increases insulin resistance, a hormone that regulates blood sugar, leading to elevated blood sugar levels. This is why resting the brain through sound sleep is necessary. In line with this, the American Diabetes Association included sleep health in its diabetes management guidelines for the first time this year.

In response, swift actions are being taken in South Korea as well. To mark its 50th anniversary, Kimjungmoon Aloe has launched ‘Kimjungmoon SuSinDang(hereinafter Sushindang),’ a diabetes herbal health food that comprehensively manages liver and sleep health.

Dr. Lee Seung-eon, director of Liwoo Oriental Medicine Clinic with 21 years of experience in diabetes treatment, directly participated in the research and development. The goal is to ‘maintain healthy blood sugar levels’ by combining the intake of beneficial herbal ingredients for the liver with proper sleep habits.

The product is available in two types—green and Red—each tailored to individual constitutions and physical conditions with optimized herbal compositions. Sushindang Green contains ingredients such as Rehmannia glutinosa, Cassia seed, malt, mulberry fruit, Salvia miltiorrhiza, and steamed Rehmannia glutinosa, which soothe liver fatigue and heat. Sushindang Red includes Paeonia lactiflora, Leonurus japonicus, Angelica gigas, Artemisia iwayomogi, and Citrus aurantium, which support the liver’s nutritional metabolism.

Dr. Lee Seung-eon of Liwoo Oriental Medicine Clinic stated, “The greatest advantage of SuSinDang is that diabetes can be prevented and managed with herbal ingredients tailored to the individual,” adding, “Greater synergistic effects can be achieved when supported by proper dietary and sleep habits.”

Recommended dietary habits include eating a balanced diet but opting for a simple Korean meal (rice + doenjang jjigae) for dinner, which aids digestion and promotes sound sleep. Additionally, it is advisable to go to bed before 11 p.m. and maintain 7–8 hours of sleep.

Kimjungmoon Aloe’s CEO, Choi Yeon-mae, said, “SuSinDang is a result of combining the wisdom of traditional oriental medicine with modern quality standards, and it will set a new standard for diabetes management.”

Meanwhile, SuSinDang is distributed through nationwide door-to-door sales agencies. Customers can receive guidance on selecting the appropriate product type from trained door-to-door salespeople.
