The development of rehabilitation therapy technology using autologous fat stem cells (SVF) is expected to gain momentum. Korea University's College of Medicine Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Monit Cell, and 365mc announced on the 14th that they have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to collaborate on developing autologous fat stem cell rehabilitation therapy technology.
Monit Cell, a biotech startup established in 2019 through a joint venture between 365mc and New Flight, continues various research projects using fat stem cells obtained from liposuction procedures on the thighs, abdomen, arms, and face.
In the future, Korea University's College of Medicine Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Monit Cell, and 365mc plan to use autologous fat stem cells to treat patients with osteoarthritis, leveraging each organization's unique capabilities. They also aim to establish a more comprehensive and tight-knit collaboration to export autologous fat stem cell rehabilitation therapy technology internationally in the long term.
Professor Joon-Sik Yoon, the head of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Korea University's College of Medicine, stated, "Our department is a leader in conservative rehabilitation therapy for musculoskeletal disorders in Korea. We have developed the nation's best ultrasound shoulder joint treatment and the world's first plasma spinal disc removal medical device. Following these achievements, it is significant to lead the research and clinical trials for degenerative knee arthritis treatment in collaboration with two companies that have world-class autologous fat extraction and separation solutions."
Seung-Wook Cho, CEO of Monit Cell, expressed, "Through this agreement, the three institutions will strive to develop rehabilitation therapies that can lead the global market by combining advanced medical and biotechnology. We will do our utmost to contribute significantly to promoting human health. Monit Cell will continue collaborating actively with leading hospitals to advance medical technology in Korea."
Nam-Chul Kim, CEO of 365mc, remarked, "This agreement, which brings together 365mc's expertise accumulated over 21 years of human fat research, the top clinical research capabilities of Korea University's College of Medicine Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, and Monit Cell's focused technology in fat research, is expected to play a crucial role in developing autologous fat stem cell rehabilitation therapy technology. This will significantly improve osteoarthritis patients' health and quality of life.
