A promising pianist Jimin Han will hold her debut solo recital at the prestigious Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall in New York on November 24, 2024. 

A promising pianist Jimin Han, who continues to captivate international audiences with her talent and relentless dedication, will hold her debut solo recital at the prestigious Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall in New York on November 24, 2024. This performance is part of the Young Artist Advancement  Program by the Arts Council Korea, recognizing Han’s exceptional skills and potential as a specialist in contemporary music.

After graduating from Sunhwa Arts Middle and High School, Jimin Han earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in piano performance from Yonsei University. She completed the Artist Diploma program at the University of Hartford in 2018 and obtained her Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) degree in 2019. Currently, she serves as a faculty member at Yonsei University’s College of Music while also nurturing young talents at Sunhwa Arts School.

Pianist Jimin Han has garnered numerous awards and accolades in domestic and international competitions. During her doctoral studies, she stood out not only at school but also in various international piano competitions in Connecticut, achieving remarkable results. In 2019, she won the Paranov Concerto Competition, marking her emergence on the international stage. She successfully performed Samuel Barber’s Piano Concerto with the Connecticut-based Lincoln Theater Orchestra.

Since her return to Korea, Han has been actively performing. In 2022, she held her recital at the Seoul Arts Center’s Recital Hall, followed by solo and chamber music performances at Sejong Chamber Hall and Kumho Art Hall. In 2023, she was invited to the Hangzhou Contemporary Music Festival in China, where she performed the complete piano etudes of Unsuk Chin in a solo recital. Additionally, she collaborated with the Guiyang Symphony Orchestra, performing Bartók’s Piano Concerto No. 3. In 2024, she performed Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with Symphony S.O.N.G Orchestra. This past September, Han successfully completed a four-city solo recital tour in the Netherlands.

For her Carnegie Hall recital, titled “The Great Contemporary Composers of Korea and the United States for Piano Solo,” Han has curated a program exclusively featuring works by contemporary composers from Korea and the U.S. The repertoire includes six piano etudes by Unsuk Chin, the first Asian recipient of the Ernst von Siemens Music Prize and a renowned composer for the Berlin Philharmonic. The program also features works by Korean composers Bumki Kim and Heejung Park, alongside notable American composers Paul Schoenfield, Aaron Kernis, and Samuel Barber. Han promises a sophisticated and emotive musical experience, bridging the artistic worlds of two nations.
