Many companies are struggling as the era of 'ESG Management (Environment Social Governance),' which pursues sustainable development through eco-friendly and social contribution activities, is indispensable.
In the field of health-functional food (hereafter referred to as dry food), Kolmar BNH is leading the way.
Kolmar BNH obtained a green specialized company certification from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs in July this year.
This certification is given to companies whose products manufactured with green technology account for more than 20% of company sales.
In particular, this Achievement of Kolmar was followed by green technology and green product certification in 2020. Achievement of 3 categories of national green accreditation is the first in the food industry beyond the dry food industry.
Kolmar BNH's representative green product is 'HemoHIM,' which helps improve immune function.
HemoHIM Achieved a carbon emission reduction effect of more than 60%.
Accordingly, it was recognized as a green product two years ago as a green technology manufacturing product that uses energy resources efficiently.
In addition, Kolmar BNH signed a business agreement with Joy Bio, an agricultural corporation, to develop eco-friendly fertilizer using by-products of herbal medicines in May this year.
It plans to reprocess about 1000 tons of by-products generated during the health-functional food manufacturing process and turn them into eco-friendly organic fertilizers. In addition to preventing environmental pollution such as soil, the carbon reduction effect caused during disposal will be great.
Kolmar BNH further plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 20% within three years, ▲ invest in high-efficiency facilities, ▲ improve manufacturing processes, ▲ expand research and development of eco-friendly raw materials, and ▲ expand waste resource upcycling.
To this end, in January of this year, the Environmental Safety Headquarters under the direct control of the CEO was newly established, and the existing regulations and systems were reorganized.
As a result, in September of this year, all business sites in Sejong and Eumseong acquired ISO14001 (Environmental Management System) and ISO45001 (Safety and Health Management System), the international highest level of certification in the field of environment and safety and health management.
An official from Kolmar BNH expressed their aspirations, "As ESG management is now a necessity, not an option, we will engage in various activities for a sustainable society as Korea's representative dry food company."
