Catholic Kwandong University International St. Mary's Hospital has announced the launch of a clinical fellowship for a colorectal surgery specialist from Kazakhstan, along with a White Coat Ceremony to mark the occasion.

The program welcomes Dr. Samat Nurkeyev, a colorectal surgery specialist affiliated with the Regional Clinical Hospital under the Karaganda Regional Health Department in Kazakhstan.

■From Kazakhstan to Korea — A Journey to Learn Advanced Surgical Techniques

Dr. Nurkeyev graduated from Akmola State Medical Institute in Astana, Kazakhstan, and completed residency training in pediatric and general surgery. He currently practices colorectal surgery at the Regional Clinical Hospital in Karaganda.

He has joined the Boniface International Medical Fellowship Program — an international medical training initiative operated by International St. Mary's Hospital — for a three-month fellowship in the Department of General Surgery. Under the mentorship of Prof. Lee Jae-im, Dr. Nurkeyev will undergo a tailored training curriculum that includes advanced laparoscopic colorectal surgery, cutting-edge robotic colorectal surgery, and ward rounds and case conferences.

Prior to the start of his training, a White Coat Ceremony was held in honor of Dr. Nurkeyev. Fr. Dong-Hyun Go, President & CEO at International St. Mary's Hospital, Catholic Kwandong University Medical Center, offered words of encouragement at the event.

"We are delighted to share Korea's advanced, life-saving medical system with Kazakhstan," said Fr. Go. "We will continue to take our role as a global medical institution seriously, building an ever-stronger network of medical cooperation with countries around the world."

Dr. Nurkeyev expressed his commitment to the program: "I am here to systematically learn Korea's internationally recognized laparoscopic and robotic colorectal surgery techniques, and I look forward to contributing to the advancement of surgical care in my home country of Kazakhstan."
